In the case of so-called secondary suns or sun dogs, it seems as if there is another, but weaker sun next to the sun. These are also halo phenomena, which can often be seen even to the left and right of the Sun at about 22°. Secondary suns, like other halo phenomena, are also caused by refraction and reflection on ice crystals. They may have coloration. Reddish colorations appear on the sunny side, followed by yellowish colors. The sun dogs end in a whitish, sometimes somewhat bluish tail.
