May 10/11, 2024, Olaf Homeier
On the evening of May 10th, we were standing with the camper at the campsite near Buxton in the Peak District in England. Since it was reasonably clear I looked up at nightfall to do some astrophotography with the Seestar.
Unfortunately, it did not become clearer as dusk progressed, but strange reddish shimmering streaks formed on the horizon which destroyed the hope of photos of galaxies.
Instead, the DSLM was used that showed the colored bands of auroras more clearly on its display .
The experience was most impressive after midnight at the end of astronomical twilight. The bands of northern light falling from the zenith in all directions could now be seen even with the naked eye. All colors were represented, from blue to green to pink and red.
An experience that I will not forget so quickly!
