A report of my visit at the Herzberger Teleskoptreffen by Thomas Grunge, September 2023
The weekend promised good astronomical weather conditions and so I packed my bags and drove spontaneously from Osnabrück to Jeßnigk in southern Brandenburg. It was to be my first visit to the Herzberger Telescope Meeting (HTT).
After a quick search, I found the entrance to the HTT and signed up for three days. At the entrance, some astro dealers had set up. In the background you can see the Elsterland Observatory .
Just to the right of the observatory you can find a barbecue, bar and covered seating. In the permanent building on the right, a room is used for astronomical lectures. Sanitary facilities can also be found in this building. An additional toilet trailer is also still there. Overall, very well organized, I think.
The site was well filled.
I had made an appointment and was warmly received by an acquaintance at the Görlitzer Sternfreunde .
Camping like in the good old days (ouch, my back!). The small luggage was quickly set up.
There were a few familiar faces at the site that I had already seen at the WHAT-Meeting . Stefan from Gifhorn was again a popular meeting place with his 20" Bino (thanks for the cheesecake ;-)). At night, all you had to do was follow the long line to find him.
During the day, the solar observation was a crowd puller. Here the sun could be seen in different wavelengths. In addition, the solar spectrum could be viewed in high resolution under expert guidance.
Kurrios were also some homemade creations. Particularly fascinating was a Bino with a "red-green Bottle optic" :-).
It was an entertaining weekend. Everything fell into place here! Next year I will definitely pitch my tent on the HTT for the second time.
Finally, a round of the course from last night.
